UK Parliament Week

An incredible week of engagement and interactive learning took place at Durham Sixth Form Centre, as part of UK Parliament Week.

This annual world wide event saw our refectory transformed into a hub of ideas and discussions, with engaging tasks that got everyone thinking about the role of parliament in our lives. This ranged from the intriguing ‘If You Were Prime Minister…’ activities where students offered their suggestions on topical issues that they would tackle and things that matter to them, to insightful feedback gathered by our Student Executive at the ‘Student Surgery’ discussing things students would like to enact and change in DSFC.

A highlight of the week was when we welcomed Cat from Durham County Council’s Youth Council. Her insights and experiences added a valuable perspective to our discussions, inspiring us to be active participants in the democratic process. This also provided students with the opportunity to sign up and make a difference in their local area and on causes that they feel passionately about.

We also had the pleasure of introducing Emma Lindsey as our newly appointed Chair for the Student Executive; the team that are the driving force behind student-led positive change. There was a chance to get know the incredible minds shaping the future of our student community and an opportunity to understand the role of the Student Executive here at DSFC through a Q&A.

A massive thank you to everyone who participated, shared their thoughts, and contributed to the vibrant atmosphere of UK Parliament Week. Let’s continue to champion the spirit of democracy and civic responsibility.
