Sports Academies

All of our Sports Academies at Durham Sixth Form Centre allow each and every student to develop their sporting talents to a level not normally supported in schools. We currently offer courses in Football, Women’s Football and Golf.

As a member of the Sports Academy, there are opportunities to gain nationally recognised qualifications in sport whilst playing at local, county and national level. Each programme also covers employability skills to prepare students for future careers in their chosen sport or in the wider world of sport.

Whilst studying at Durham Sixth Form Centre, as a member of our Sports Academy programme, you will also have access to all that Durham Sixth Form Centre has to offer such as:

  • access to a full and comprehensive range of subjects at A-Level and BTEC Level 3;
  • an award-winning careers information, advice and guidance service;
  • financial support which is available to our students (see Student Finance section of the website for more information about this);
  • an enrichment programme which provides opportunities to try new things, take existing skills and interests further, and meet new people;
  • a range of facilities such Freeman’s Quay, the Gala Theatre and the planned Freeman’s Reach. Our students enjoy having all of the city centre facilities, shops, restaurants, city library, cinema and theatre right on their doorstep.
