Culture Week 2026
Durham Sixth Form Centre was transformed into a vibrant tapestry of global heritage as we celebrated our annual Culture Week. It was a privilege to witness our community come together to share, learn and celebrate the diverse backgrounds that make us such a unique place to study.
The Roots Reimagined competition was a standout success. We were blown away by the depth of talent in the art, prose and poetry submissions. Each piece offered a window into a student’s personal history, blending tradition with modern perspectives.
We also premiered our culture video, featuring heartfelt interviews with students. They spoke movingly about what their heritage means to them and how the inclusive environment at Durham Sixth Form Centre has allowed them to express their identities with pride and confidence.
The ‘cultural food and dress day’ turned the sixth form into a sea of colour and aroma. From intricate traditional garments to the incredible spread of traditional foods, the exchange of culture was felt by everyone.
The cultural performance in the theatre was a show-stopper. The audience was treated to an electric mix of Afrobeats, Afghan traditions and Irish dancing. The energy didn’t stop there, many students got involved first-hand during our cultural dance workshop, where students stepped out of their comfort zones to learn new rhythms and movements from around the world.

Culture Week wasn’t just about the events; it was about fostering a positive, inclusive spirit that defines us. Thank you to every student who performed, cooked, created, and participated. They proved that while we come from many different places, we are one united community.
