Temporary - School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions

Innovation. Ambition. Excellence. Become our next Teacher of Law.

Durham Sixth Form Centre is recruiting an exceptional Teacher of Law to join our outstanding sixth form team—where innovation, ambition, and student success power everything we do. This is an incredible opportunity to make a profound difference working with a team of like-minded professionals while covering a colleague’s one-year sabbatical.

At Durham Sixth Form Centre, we don’t just deliver Law courses—we nurture tomorrow’s legal professionals, advocates, and critical thinkers. With a thriving sixth form and a national reputation for academic excellence, this is your opportunity to lead our students through the complexities of the A Level Law and BTEC Law specifications and shape the future of legal education in an outstanding setting.

What makes this role exciting?

  • Deliver a dynamic Law curriculum: Lead the exploration of the English Legal System, Criminal Law, Tort, and areas of substantive law (such as Human Rights or Contract), ensuring students master the rigorous analytical and evaluative skills required in post 16 study.
  • Inspire future legal minds: Challenge highly motivated learners who are passionate about justice, ethics, and the application of the law in a contemporary society.
  • Bridge theory and practice: Lead outstanding teaching that sits at the intersection of legal statutes, landmark case law, and the rapidly evolving legal challenges of the 21st century.
  • Strategic academic development: Take a lead role in refining our curriculum delivery during this year, ensuring our students are prepared for the demands of high-stakes assessment and the transition to elite universities.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an outstanding level 3 practitioner with a proven track record of securing excellent outcomes in post 16 (we also welcome applications from ambitious teachers ready for their first specialist post).
  • Possesses deep subject expertise, with the ability to explain complex legal principles and judicial precedents with clarity and enthusiasm.
  • Brings a passion for legal discourse that motivates learners to engage with diverse viewpoints and develop their own evidence-based, logical arguments.
  • Is committed to collaborative, evidence-informed teaching, working within the Human Sciences Faculty to trial new strategies for legal writing and problem-solving questions.
  • Understands how to build student confidence, preparing them for high-level progression into Law (LLB), Criminology, and other competitive professional pathways.

Why choose us?

  • Be a part of an Investors in People: Platinum [Employer of the Year 2025] organisation.
  • We are a flourishing high-performing sixth form where students achieve and exceed their potential.
  • Be part of a team that’s ambitious, supportive, and driven by purpose.
  • Benefit from personalised CPD, leadership coaching, and genuine career progression.

Join Durham Sixth Form Centre as a Teacher of Law (Temporary for one year, sabbatical cover). Inspire the next generation of solicitors, barristers, and legal scholars in a high-performing, outstanding sixth form. Lead our students through the rigours of A Level and BTEC Law and empower them to navigate the complexities of the legal system and the modern world. We are located in the heart of Durham, just 20 minutes from Sunderland and 30 minutes from Newcastle city centre.
