Mrs Ellen Beveridge BA (Hons) MEd NPQH
Mrs Beveridge is the Headteacher at Durham Sixth Form Centre. After graduating with first-class honours as a teacher of Technology with QTS, she held several roles, including Assistant Head of Year and Head of Art and Technology, prior to working in Durham. Mrs Beveridge completed her MA in Education, as well as the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH), whilst a Senior Leader at Durham Sixth Form Centre, prior to taking up her role as Headteacher. As Headteacher, Mrs Beveridge is responsible for the strategic leadership and vision of the school, its effectiveness, achievement and the quality of teaching. Mrs Beveridge grew up in the North East of England and has three children of her own of primary and secondary school age.
Miss Jo Lain BA (Hons)
Deputy Headteacher – Teaching and Learning
Miss Lain graduated from the University of Durham with a BA Honours degree in Geography, before completing her PGCE in Secondary Education at Newcastle University. She began her career in 1994, teaching Geography in a school in the Lake District. She then taught in London for several years, before taking up post as Head of Geography at Durham Sixth Form Centre in 2001. Miss Lain is one of two Deputy Headteachers at Durham Sixth Form Centre. Her primary focus is the vision for high-quality, inspirational teaching and learning as well as staff CPD. In addition, she works as a Specialist Leader in Education (SLE), embedding outstanding practice in Continual Professional Development, as part of the Teaching School Alliance.
Miss Lesley Thompson BA (Hons)
Deputy Headteacher – Outcomes for Students
Miss Thompson graduated from the University of Hull with a BA Honours degree in French and a PGCE in Secondary Education. She has worked at Durham Sixth Form Centre since 2001, during which time she has held a variety of roles, including teacher of French, Head of the Modern Foreign Languages and Assistant Headteacher. In 2012, she was appointed to the role of Deputy Headteacher with a primary focus on achievement and performance. Miss Thompson works closely with Mrs Beveridge to oversee the strategic leadership of the school and one of her lead roles is the raising achievement agenda, which aims to ensure that all students maximise their academic success at Durham Sixth Form Centre.
Mr Lee Bone BA (Hons) PG Dip
Assistant Headteacher - Student Well-being (Year 12)
Mr Bone started his teaching career at Durham Sixth Form Centre in 2006, as a Geography and Humanities teacher, after graduating with a first-class honours degree in Geography Education with Qualified Teachers Status. He is currently Assistant Headteacher, having previously held roles including Head of Geography, Head of Humanities and Leader of Learning for English & Humanities. As Assistant Headteacher, Mr Bone has a varied role but his main focus is Student Well-being for all students in Year 12. This includes student attendance, behaviour and safety, and student welfare. He is the Centre's Designated Safeguarding Lead for Year 12 students. Mr Bone is also the strategic lead for student recruitment and publicity and marketing. Mr Bone teaches A-Level Business.
Mrs Lisa Packer BA (Hons) MEd
Assistant Headteacher – Transition to Progression
Mrs Packer began teaching at Durham Sixth Form Centre in 2003, as a teacher of Art & Design, having worked an 11-18 school in Newcastle. She graduated with a BA Honours degree in Art & Design and a PGCE in Secondary Education, from St Martins, Lancaster. She also obtained her master's degree in Education from Newcastle University. As Assistant Headteacher, Mrs Packer's role has a focus on student transition through to student progression. This includes enrolment, and our Aspire programme, most able students, UCAS, the Tutor Support Programme, work experience and educational visits. Mrs Packer is also the Careers Leader, leads the Extended Project Qualification and teaches Business.
Mr Steven Robinson BSc (Hons)
Assistant Headteacher – Student Well-being (Year 13)
Mr Robinson started his teaching career at Durham Sixth Form Centre in 2002, having completed a BSc in Sports Science, and then a PGCE in Secondary Education at Durham University. He has undertaken a range of roles within school, including Director of Learning and Associate Senior Leader prior to being Assistant Headteacher. As Assistant Headteacher, Mr Robinson is responsible for Student Well-being for all students in Year 13, including student attendance, behaviour and safety, and student welfare. He is the Centre's Designated Safeguarding Lead for Year 13. In addition, Mr Robinson is also the strategic lead for safeguarding and prevent and British Values. He also provides a strategic lead to the Durham and Chester-le-Street School Sport Partnership and is the school's BTEC Quality Assurance Nominee. Mr Robinson teaches BTEC Sport.
Mrs Claire Rye BA (Hons)
Assistant Headteacher – Business Management
Mrs Rye began teaching at Durham Sixth Form Centre in 2003, as a teacher of Geography, having previously taught at an 11-18 school in Gateshead. She graduated from Newcastle University with a 2:1 BA Honours degree in Geography and a PGCE in Secondary Education. Prior to being Assistant Headteacher, Mrs Rye was a Director of Learning and an Associate Senior Leader. As Assistant Headteacher, Mrs Rye’s role embraces a diverse range of business management within the organisation including curriculum and timetabling, examinations, financial, premises and facilities management and ICT infrastructure.
