Freshers Fair 2026

The new academic year started with our incredible annual Freshers’ Fair, bringing together a dynamic mix of local charities, wellbeing services and activity providers, directly to our campus. The event was designed to give students every tool needed to stay safe, active and supported, as they settle into their studies.

Supporting student mental and physical health was a major focus of this year’s fair. Local partners provided vital resources, free support and practical health advice. Organisations like Durham Healthwatch, Piece of Mind, Waythrough and If U Care Share, joined us to share guidance on mental health awareness, counseling and navigating local health services.

Representatives from Durham County Council Road Safety offered essential safety tips for getting around the city, while the C-CARD scheme team was on hand to promote free, confidential sexual health resources. Bannatyne Durham stopped by to highlight local gym access and healthy lifestyle options for the upcoming term.

Barnardo’s Durham, Durham Area Youth, and St Nic’s Durham, connected with students interested in mentoring, youth work and local faith and community initiatives.

The Auckland Project and Durham Wildlife Trust shared inspiring ways to volunteer with local heritage sites and conservation efforts, while Durham FA and Durham University Holiday Camps showcased coaching, sport and seasonal work opportunities.

A huge thank you to all our external visitors for spending the day with us and helping our students start the academic year connected, informed and ready to thrive.
