First Aid Course for Students

A group of our dedicated students recently completed the Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course. In training sessions delivered by the experts at First Aid North East, they moved beyond the classroom to gain practical, hands-on experience that could one day save a life.

The course was comprehensive and fast-paced, covering the essential skills needed to manage an incident before professional medical help arrives. Our students are now proficient in:

  • CPR & Defibrillator: Learning the rhythm of life-saving chest compressions and how to confidently operate an automated external defibrillator.
  • Choking & Unconsciousness: Mastering the recovery position and techniques to clear blocked airways.
  • Wound Management: Treating everything from minor cuts and grazes to serious burns and external bleeding.
  • Bone & Muscle Injuries: Identifying and stabilising broken bones, fractures, and dislocations.
  • Medical Emergencies: Recognising the signs of shock and other sudden illnesses.

This wasn’t just a workshop; it was a professional certification process. Each student who completed the day will receive an accredited certificate, valid for three years. This qualification is a fantastic addition to their CVs and UCAS application statements. Demonstrating responsibility, composure under pressure, and a commitment to the wellbeing of others.

One student explained “I really enjoyed the sessions they were fun, engaging and informative. Knowing that I actually have the skills to help someone in an emergency, rather than just standing by makes me feel much more confident.”

Thank you to the staff at First Aid North East for their engaging delivery and expertise. We are incredibly proud of our new first-aiders.
